Shopped With CVS Online? You Could Be a Part of a $20.5M Settlement

The pharmacy chain CVS is getting ready to settle a $20.5 million lawsuit against it, despite its claims that it has done nothing wrong. The lawsuit alleges that the pharmacy disclosed private health information, browsing data and more from those who shopped on its websites (cvs.com and cvshealth.com) or mobile apps to advertising company Criteo and other third parties. Potential class members of the lawsuit should have received an email notification in September (PDF) about the case, which entitles them to either $5 or $10 in payment, depending on whether they can provide specific documentation. That said, the payments may be reduced depending on the number of qualified class members, according to the official settlement website. Eligibility is also straightforward. If you made a purchase at CVS online or in its mobile app prior to July 27, you’re considered a class member and are eligible for payment. As is typical with class-action lawsuits, potential class members may also opt out of the settlement. Opting out of the settlement will prevent payment but allow you to maintain your right to sue the company directly. The final date to opt out of the settlement is Nov. 1.
