California shocker:13 children trapped, tortured by parents
CALIFORNIA, U.S. - In an incident that has shocked not just California but the rest of the country as well, the police in California managed to rescue 13 children who were said to have been tortured by their parents. The incident came to light after police found that a 17-year-old girl had escaped her house in Perris, which is about 113 kilometres east of Los Angeles. The Riverside County Sheriff's Office said in a statement that after escaping, the girl used a mobile phone she had found in the house to call the police. The police meanwhile said, "Deputies located what they believed to be 12 children inside the house, but were shocked to discover that seven of them were actually adults. The victims appeared to be malnourished and very dirty." Initially, officials believed that the girl was thought to be about 10 years old and officers said that she had contacted police on Sunday after escaping. Upon reaching the residence, the California couple, identified as parents of 13 children, 57-year-old David Allen Turpin, and 49-year-old Louise Anna Turpin, were arrested.
