MARYLAND, U.S. - Three people, including a gunman were critically injured after shots were fired inside a school in southeast Maryland, 65 miles south of Washington. The incident took place at the Great Mills High School in Maryland on Tuesday morning and witnesses said that shots were fired after 8 am, before classes had started. St Mary’s County sheriff’s spokeswoman Cpl Julie Yingling told reporters that there had been no fatalities at Great Mills high school but that three people were injured, including the shooter. Yingling said that the two victims were shot but said that there was so far, no information as to how  the shooter was injured. A report in NBC said that a Great Mills High School resource officer shot the gunman after the two briefly exchanged fire. All the three injured have been transported to the hospital and are said to be in a critical condition. The school, which is said to have about 1,600 students, is located near the Patuxent River Naval Air Station, about 65 miles south-east of Washington DC.  In an update when the incident occurred, St Mary’s County Public Schools said that the campus was on lockdown.
